Injectables for wrinkle treatment

The board-certified dermatologists of Physicians Laser and Dermatology Institute bring important experience, skill, and precision to the use of non-invasive injectables for wrinkle treatment. BOTOX® and DYSPORT® injections work with nerve cells that prompt facial muscles to remain contracted in certain expressions, while Restylane® and Juvederm® are dermal fillers that add skin volume where gravity or age have displaced fullness.  Injectables are the most popular cosmetic procedures, thanks to their effectiveness and minimal recovery time. When administered by experts, these treatments involve few risks, and help patients feel dramatically better about their appearance.

At PLDI, all of these injectables are administered by a board-certified dermatologist, not an assistant or nurse. The physicians of PLDI have been administering dermal fillers for more than 30 years and BOTOX from the time of its FDA clearance more than a decade ago, and have been actively involved in studies evaluating these products.

BOTOX works by blocking the nerve signals that tell facial muscles to contract. By limiting the muscles’ ability to contract, BOTOX not only reduces targeted lines and wrinkles but slows the deepening of wrinkles and the appearance of aging. PLDI physicians use BOTOX to reduce frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and lip and neck wrinkles.

DYSPORT injections also achieve reduction in wrinkles by blocking nerve signals to facial muscles. Like BOTOX, DYSPORT injections are a very popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure. The broad acceptance of DYSPORT is due to ease of use and effectiveness in treating common types of wrinkles, especially in the upper third of the face, including frown lines, horizontal forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet. DYSPORT is also often used successfully to smooth vertical and horizontal neck lines.

Restylane and Juvederm brands are injectable dermal fillers that are based on hyaluronic acid. This basic element of connective skin tissue draws and holds water, and nourishes and moisturizes the skin. Like collagen, natural hyaluronic acid content in the skin diminishes with age. Restylane and Juvederm products are all non-animal hyaluronic acid (NASHA) fillers, so no allergy testing is required. The structure of the particles in these products is different and your physician will recommend the appropriate formula.

Restylane and Juvederm products are used with great success:

  • To fill facial folds and wrinkles such as marionette lines

  • To restore facial volume and offset the droopy effects of gravity

  • To augment lips, and

  • To reshape the face with the appearance of higher cheekbones and stronger chin
